The Ride

I love when God speaks and I completely understand His side of the conversation. Lately, I’ve been praying for some things to shift into place. I want to walk through the right doors. Basically, I just want to make sure I’m in God’s will. This week was kids’ camp week. For the first time in a long time, God gave me such a powerful word. He told me to quit worrying about the details. I’m not supposed to navigate this path He has set before me-He is. I simply need to enjoy the ride. God also confirmed for me that the ministry He has called me into isn’t a destination but a journey. I have always known that I would work in ministry but didn’t have a specific role in mind. To that end, I have served in many areas including worship, administration, kids, and moreu.  Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed. (Proverbs‬ ‭16‬:‭3‬ ‭NLT‬‬)i Moving forward, I am once again reminded to let God control my direction. If I try to force an outcome, it will not grow and thrive i...

Abba

I haven’t really delved into my personal experience and relationships with the men in my life who had impact. The reasons don’t matter except for the beauty that God brought from ashes in these relationships. I am blessed with men in my life who love and support me.  My favorite one, of course, is my husband. Lyndon truly loves being a dad and takes delight in children. This is such a common thread in our marriage that it’s no wonder he is a magnet for young men who need a guy like him. He’s honest to a fault, unconditionally loving, and simply has a heart for people. We often have joked that we have so many more than our two boys because their friends are around often and feel at home here. Lyndon created that atmosphere.  That’s not unlike our Heavenly Father who longs for more than the surface deep formality of relationship.  And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” (Galatians‬ ‭4‬:‭6...

Busy-less

Oh, how often I confront this topic! One of these days, God is going to show me how to create and utilize margin in my life for His purpose. Until then, I’m back to the basics and self-reminders. In fact, I’m actually learning to write my posts ahead of time (like this week) because I know that Sunday I will be extremely busy. So that’s progress, right? The next three weeks will be very hectic for me. VBS at Northside is this week. I also have to go into work on Thursday and Friday (again, I’ve already prepped so that this won’t be too stressful). We made an impromptu decision to visit Wild Adventures next weekend because, honestly, we likely won’t have another opportunity to go out of town with Bryson. Then on June 21, I leave for Kids’ Camp! But wait! There’s more! The following week, I am scheduled to attend a literacy conference in Jacksonville. Whew, just thinking about all that I have ahead of me is enough to make me want to hide in bed until June is over! Don’t get me wrong, I a...

Word Study: Pride

I enjoy the English language. There are so many variations of words that are a conglomeration of various backgrounds. Over time, words also develop into different meanings from the original context. Today is a good day to study one such word. Pride. The word pride  is a noun. It has multiple meanings. As an English teacher, I typically look at the initial meanings of words in order to help students understand. The first entry, according to Oxford Dictionary reads: a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or  possessions   that are widely  admired .  Synonyms provided for this definition include: delight, gratification, satisfaction. The next entry is similar, but a little more harsh: consciousness of one's own dignity or the quality of having an excessively high opinion of oneself.  The similar words here have a more negative connotation: ...
