JUST STAND: EVEN WHEN YOU'RE NOT READY

My best friend says that if I had a superpower, it would be getting ready at warped speed.  I attribute this to two things: being a mom of boys, and not being a morning person.  As a boy mom, I learned when my kids were small that mommy better hurry and get dressed or they would be climbing on top of shelves or building forts with blankets that I had just put away.  As a night owl, that last ounce of sleep is precious time, so I’d rather not waste time primping when I can sleep.  I’ve developed a clear routine that has me ready and out the door in forty-five minutes or less.  But it took some time to perfect this.  My mom can tell you I certainly wasn’t this way as a teenager.  I can’t tell you how often I wasn’t ready on time.  Today I want to discuss how we can just stand even if we aren’t ready for something. I think it’s fitting to explore the life of Moses.   He clearly wasn’t looking to lead the Israelites out of Egypt.   He was ...

Just Stand: Part 3

In this video, I cover the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit.  Additionally, my friends at CC Designs have created an Unbroken & Undone t-shirt. To order, email info@ccdesignsprinting.com.  All profits go to this amazing small business (this is not a promotion or fundraiser for me).  Thank you for your prayers and know that I'm praying for you as we journey together unbroken. Next week, we will begin exploring some of the people who obeyed God, put on the armor, and watched Him deliver the victory! © Jill Cook and Unbroken & Undone Ministries. All rights reserved.

Just Stand There: Introduction

"Jill, get still you're making me nervous." "I know, Grandmother, I make my own self nervous." This declaration at the age of seven occurred during a storm induced power outage. I was spending the night with my Grandmother, Joyce, which was a weekly tradition that continued into my late teen years. She was bustling around to light candles and, being afraid of the dark, I was hot on her heels. We often look back on that night and laugh because I was zipping around frantically, and my remark was precocious.  Sometimes, God would like for us to just be still. In fact, He states this in His Word several times.  As I have moved into this call to write, God has begun something in me that I would have never dreamed...or desired if I am being honest.  He is calling me to be a spiritual warrior. This unnatural shift for me has been completely supernatural as I take on the enemies of darkness without fear, knowing that God has put me into this position for this season of ...

Obedience Observed

My favorite book of the Bible is Esther. Interestingly, the name of God is not mentioned in the entire book, but I love the bravery of the young Jewish girl who won the heart of the king. I guess it appeals to my girlish notions of the ultimate love story.  However, I want to explore further than just the surface of the story right now. At the very heart of Esther, the Queen and the Book, was obedience. She was orphaned early in life and adopted by her cousin Mordecai. When she was ordered, probably against her will, along with the other girls in the region to be presented to the king as a potential wife, she obeyed her cousin’s order not to reveal her true identity. She kept secret that she was Jewish.  She found favor in the king’s eunuch in charge of the beauty treatments required for the girls, and as a result, obeyed his instructions on selecting only what he suggested in order to win the king’s affection. It worked. Still, she honored Mordecai’s instructions and never re...

Perspective

We went on vacation this week. It was one of those last minute decisions because we realized that it would pretty much be our only chance to go as a family. The guys love the mountains, so we loaded the car and headed to Gatlinburg.  As the boys have gotten older, it’s been less vigorous trying to keep them entertained while we are here. When they were small, we filled our days with non-stop activities moving quickly from one thing to the next. This time was different. We didn’t have to constantly keep going and moving to see everything, and they were eager to get some rest each night.  Our biggest problem on vacation was finding a spot to eat. Places are still reeling from COVID and have thankfully put measures in place to keep people safe.  And then we saw a tragic story. Missionaries to Haiti died in a plane crash while trying to join their families. Even more, these people weren’t escaping the unrest in the country. They were going back into it because of their heart ...
