Temporary Home

I saw the best shirt today online.  It read "Heaven is my home.  I'm just recruiting."  How are you recruiting others to know Jesus and make Heaven their forever home? Literally.  Sometimes we get so caught up in everything around us (me too!), that we forget our primary mission is to go and tell the world about Jesus.  Life happens.  Disappointments come.  We get lost in ourselves.  Friend, this is where I've been for a few weeks.

With that being said, I can gladly report that God is moving and fighting my battles for me.  He is my source of peace when the chaos and darkness of this world presses in to steal my joy. Thank you for your prayers.  They have been felt as Holy Spirit has strengthened me every day and reminded me that my work on this earth is primarily for the glory of God.

Don't get me wrong.  I love being a mom and wife.  But if I am not being the woman that God has called me to be, what kind of example is this for my young men who will be seeking a wife one day? I've heard it said that our greatest work may not be something you do, but it may be someone you raise.  As my guys grow into manhood, I pray for their relationship with God and for Him to open the doors they need to walk through.  Is it hard?  YES! I recognize now more than every how very precious our moments are and want to savor every second that I get to be involved in their lives.

I also love teaching.  Now, I can assure you that since COVID, the dynamic of how education occurs has changed so significantly and continues to shift as we move through each day.  We are all doing the best we can.  I can declare unashamedly that teaching is definitely a calling. If I am not serving God and loving Him first, I cannot love the way He loves my students and colleagues.

Which brings me to my point today. What I do while I live here on earth matters. More than anything, what I do for the Kingdom of Christ matters. I don’t have to be a missionary or in full-time ministry every day to touch someone for Christ.

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. (Colossians 3:23)

Whether I am home, at work, or at the grocery store, I can be the light and show others the joy and love of God. That’s my purpose while I’m here. I’m going to Heaven, y’all, and I want to take as many of you with me as I can! So forgive me for sounding “preachy,” but part of my mission means sharing the truth-Jesus.

You can’t get to Heaven on your own by just being a good person. The only way to Heaven is through accepting Jesus by recognizing you are a sinner (Romans 3:23), acknowledging that God loves you so much, He sent Jesus to die for your sins (Romans 5:8), and declaring that Jesus is now in control of your life (Romans 10:9). Giving up control of your life to Jesus is all the work you have to do. There are no strings attached. You don’t have to complete any grand acts to prove you love God. Just love and accept His Son.

Heaven is my ultimate destination. I can’t wait to see everyone who has gone before me. It’s going to be an amazing reunion with friends and family who chose Jesus Christ as their Savior. I hope to see you there, too. Will you RSVP today by choosing Jesus? As a recruiter, I’d be so happy to take you through the process of gaining Heavenly citizenship! What do you say?

Feelings and Faith

Vulnerable moment: it’s been a crazy week. If I’m being honest, the last six months or more have been wrought with uncertainty and so many questions within myself about my purpose.  I’ve been in a season of transition in our family with adapting to having an independent adult child and an independent teenage son-both of whom are thriving. So my purpose as a mom has shifted into steadfast support and guidance from a distance rather than rushing to the rescue, which I know is where we should be with them. This shift has adjusted our marriage. Lyndon and I are both learning how to navigate this new territory, and I’m so grateful we have each other.  My Daddy died suddenly last year, and I am still grieving the unexpected loss and what could have been. Grief is a strange journey and differs for everyone. What I know is Christ gives me the most profound peace when I feel my turbulent heart trying to sway me. But it certainly is a sadness that is layered. Because of these major life...

He’s Already Heard My Prayer

This is one of the most difficult pieces to write. My dad, Steve, passed away this morning unexpectedly. He was the “Music Man” in my world who made life a song.  Daddy was responsible for putting me on the stage. At two years old, he stood me on the altar at church so everyone could watch me sing “Victory in Jesus.”   At twelve, he was teaching me how to set up equipment and mix sound. As a teenager, we wrote songs together. His love of music is so deeply ingrained in me that I feel a piece of that is somehow missing now. Things were not always great between me and Daddy. In fact, we went for a long time without having contact with one another. I’m so grateful that God restored our relationship in his final years. Neither one of us were perfect in our relationship, but I always loved him deeply. So today, I’m heartbroken. Memories are flooding my mind, and there are so many things I still wanted us to share. I know the coming days will be filled with waves of grief and the st...

Five Favorite Things

With Valentine's Day coming up, I've been thinking about the "stuff" that I really like. Flowers are great, and jewelry is nice. But if you want a friend gift or something a little more unique, here are a few ideas. Perhaps this post will help you shop for the perfect gift that will become a "favorite thing." For the Music Lover If you are purchasing for a musician or vocalist, you have a ton of options including a guitar pick necklace or keyring to tickets for a concert. Even vintage gifts like records have made a strong comeback in the music community. Things to consider when purchasing for your musical genius: what is their favorite genre? Who is their favorite artist? Before buying that album, make sure they don't already have it. For the Teacher I can tell you most assuredly what many teachers DON'T need: another mug. Even though this seems like a simple, cute gift, as a teacher, I have difficulty parting with any gift from students. I have ...
